Founded in 2006 by the merger of Luxembourg-based Arcelor, and India's Mittal Steel, owned by Indian businessman Lakshmi Mittal. After the merger of its production facilities made up 120 million tons per year. The goal of development was to make the facilities over the next five years to 150 million tons. The economic crisis has led to the postponement of projects implemented with the years 2011-2012 for 2014.
The company owns a number of enterprises extracting iron ore, coal, as well as steel plants, including a large plant Krivozhstal "in Ukraine.
The volume of steel issued in 2008 decreased by 7.2% to 101.7 million tons.
In 2008 ArcelorMittal earnings grew by 18,7% up to $ 124.936 billion, net profit fell 9.3% to $ 9.399 bln
